The Fundamental Key of Body Language

The Fundamental Key of Body Language

by Owen Fitzpatrick in Body Language

Many people make a big mistake when trying to gauge another persons body language. They think if the eyes move in a certain direction it automatically means something… or if the persons legs or crossed it means something else. The reality is that the body language of someone reveals clues to their thoughts and feelings only through a cluster of body language signals.

It is not one simple clue that tells you what you need to know but a number of clues combined that reveal what is more than likely going on. Most people find themselves jumping to conclusions when they spot something that they have read about in a book. This mistake leads them to start the ‘thinker thinks, prover proves’ process in which they filter everything the person does from then on to prove and confirm their initial assumption.

Instead, our unconscious ability to read people often far outweighs our conscious skill and therefore the intuition we can get from a persons body gives us more valuable information than a few clues we have been told to watch out for. It is when you see a pattern of such cues that you learn a great deal about what is going on in another persons head. So, the trick is observe others and just practice going with your gut and then notice the clusters of body language gestures you see and see where the patterns are.
