How do the most inspiring people on the planet do what they do? How can you inspire your team as a leader? How can you inspire your children as a parent?
Well there are three essential keys to inspiring others that may well be useful for you to know.
- Be the example. The most important rule of inspirational leadership is to be a great example of the kind of behaviours you want to see from others. People often do what you do and not what you say.
- Paint the vision. Inspirational figures tend to be very vivid and clear in what is possible for their audience to achieve. They create excitement by painting a picture in the audience’s mind of an incredible future full of all the best experiences.
- Explain the grand ‘Why’. The art of effective inspiration involves connecting with others’ deepest and grandest motivations. It means answering the question ‘why bother doing this?’ in a way that connects it to a global mission. Steve Jobs never said let’s make decent computers. He said let’s make a ‘dent’ in the universe. That is a grand why.
Of course, inspiration comes in many forms but these three ideas are critical to ensure that you inspire others successfully.
